opinions, politics, and food

I suppose that this is my new, online diary. Oh, the weird and multifaceted aspects that my id may unleash upon the cyber-world! I have always considered this type of thing to be for the zombie, so what does that make me?

Just for shits and giggles:
There are certain words that I have been told not to put online (nuclear) for fear of being one of MILLIONS (bomb) whose names are put upon a (terrorism) watch-list.
I have faith that our security is not in the hands of complete morons (W's gone). I'll let ya'll know.

Okay, now that I'm finished putting conspiracy-theorists aside, I have to admit that while I do agree with much of the nation that the government has gone WAY far from the founding-father's ideals of democracy, we can not place the blame solidly on "The Men in Black's" shoulders and we can not blame the current situation on the current administration (although so many of those who cast past ballots and voted in to being many of the policies that are now come to fruition would like to). In a government "of the people, by the people, and for the people," we have no-one but ourselves to blame for the corruptibility and self-interest of our representatives and their inability to make every one of us happy, even when they ARE trying to make us ALL safe. (You have to admit that for a country that is based on the premise of freedom , in general, but more specifically freedom of religion, We Suck. Everybody is trying to make someone else conform to something, everybody has their nose in SOMEONE else's business, each of us has SOME opinion of another's life that we think that we have a right to inflict, each of us unconsciously looks for that person that we can look down on- especially those who seem to have flown so high beforehand). They are easy scape-goats for the opinions of those of us who are self-centered, look to "the law, with no recourse to emotion" (sheer stupidity on our individual parts) , and who want a system of law in place that puts ANYONE except for fate, life, shitake happens, ourselves, or "God, God, NOOOOOOOO" in to a bad place that isn't EVERYONE'S or ANYONE'S or SOMEONE'S FAULT (we mustn't run out of people to sue!). They have the unenviable task of trying to keep the most vocal portion of society happy, even though that involves multi-opinioned people who can't All be left happy, while trying to anticipate the desires of a non-vocal (probably major-ital) societal section, while trying to anticipate what people really mean/ vs what we ALL say, vs practice and theory, ..... well, vs all the various human responses that before and more especially AFTER they've tried to make "the people" happy.

Look, the government of ANY nation, regardless of the label that that form carries, depends upon the people who stand for it. Even in strictly military-based governments, the government is powered by those who defend it, as much as those who accept it. And DO NOT be mistaken, the readily observable power of all forms of government are militarily based in some way. The soldiers who go out are not to be punished for the war they fight. They have done their duty without recourse, choice, and it has always taken much more than this for a standing army to turn on it's rulers; to shift belief in the meaning, the reality-changing evolution of their heart-given vow, to their country and the ruling cabal, but the "government" is answerable and the only honestly blamable force for the conflict that our sons, brother, uncles, husbands, and fathers find themselves in.
That statement doesn't mean that that is the end of the argument. I can bring the guilt all the way down in to each and every one of our laps, regardless of which side of the fence we individually sit on, regardless of nation, regardless of faith, regardless of color, regardless of individual biases. "We the people" are NOT blameless. NO ONE can say that they had no hand in the current situation. If you do, you are the very least trying to lie to yourself.

Okay! Enough of this! I can type for hours and sound like the ignoramus that I am! FOOD FOOD FOOD! I saw a Jacques Pepin cook show, using red wine, that reminded me that alcohol can be used for food- including desserts. I did a marinade for 2 VERY nice pork steaks (on meat department clearance for less than my favorite bacon) using 1&1/2 cups whiskey, 2-3 tbspns hand-minced garlic, 1/3 cup chopped onion (unless you like more or less), 1-3 tbspn pepper, 2-4 tbspn cinnamon (preference is the point), up to 1/4 cup brown sugar, up to 1/4 tspn red pepper, how much Italian seasoning smells tasty to you, and THE big thing for this PORK meal; 1 apple cut in to quarters, cored, with anything icky cut off, thin-sliced. I put the marinade together at 4p.m. the 20th, let it sit until midnight, put 1 steak in a thick medium tossible, spooned out half the solids and sopped out half the liquid, evened it out, slapped in the other pork steak on the 1st mess of yummy, dumped the rest on top, evened it out, let it all sit until tonight, the 21st, at 8p.m. and then forked it into a medium heat pan with 1/4 cup of butter- pre heated- with whatever landed in the pan while forking out each steak and a few apple slices, distributed. Cook on each side until juices run clear or LIGHT golden-brown on each side, whichever comes first.
I served this with cream of asparagus rice: medium saucepan, 1 can cream of asparagus soup for basic (any cream soup), 2 cans water to 1 can rice, boil water and condensed soup, add rice, stir lots and check, cover but check, simmer on low for 20 minutes or until ready.
The actual veggie was canned, long, and green, cooked the way the canned, long, and green things are cooked. This meal didn't cost me any extra and the only thing I had to go out of my way for was the Northern Lights whiskey. I had used up my Jack on the (similar) marinaded apples for the Butter Pecan ice cream topping. That recipe should be obvious, pan sauteed. Think! Common sense and flavor!
